BuildJet alternatives for GitHub Actions (2026)
BuildJet shut down on 31 March 2026. Its own reason points back to GitHub's runners; hosted services and spot machines in your own cloud are the other ways out.
BuildJet stopped running jobs on 31 March 2026. It announced the shutdown on 6 February, saying “the gap we set out to fill has largely closed”. A job whose runs-on still names a BuildJet label now waits for a runner that never comes. BuildJet labels still appear in about 1,100 public workflow files on GitHub (code search, 27 October 2026), many of them in workflows nobody has run since.

BuildJet’s own reason for closing points at the first row. GitHub now has Arm runners, larger machines and lower prices than when BuildJet started, so for some teams the simplest move is back to GitHub’s runners. The Blacksmith alternatives page has the notes behind each price.
Moving a workflow off BuildJet
- Change the label. Replace
runs-on: buildjet-4vcpu-ubuntu-2204(or-arm, or another size) with the new provider’s label for the same size, such asubuntu-24.04with a larger runner on GitHub, orsuperci/cpu=4on SuperCI. - Change BuildJet’s actions back to GitHub’s.
buildjet/cacheandbuildjet/setup-nodeare forks ofactions/cacheandactions/setup-node; use the originals. A workflow that runsbuildjet/cache-deletecan be removed. - Look for jobs that never start. A workflow that only runs on a schedule or by hand may still name a BuildJet label. Search the repository for
buildjetto find them all at once.
Questions
Is BuildJet still running?
No. BuildJet announced the shutdown on 6 February 2026, made concurrency subscriptions free until the end, and stopped running jobs on 31 March 2026.
What was the cheapest BuildJet replacement?
Per minute, spot machines in your own cloud account: about $0.0015 for 4 vCPUs with RunsOn or SuperCI. Among hosted services, Ubicloud lists the lowest price, $0.0025 for 4 vCPUs. GitHub’s own price for the same size is $0.012.
Which BuildJet alternatives also have Arm runners?
GitHub, Blacksmith, WarpBuild, RunsOn and SuperCI list Arm runners with prices. Depot and Namespace say they offer Arm but don’t list a separate price.
